The previous chapter detailed the new technologies resulting from the Industrial Internet of Things applicable within industrial cyber-physical systems (ICPS). These technologies, which have become mature and economically accessible, allow for industrial resources (machines, handling, etc.) and the products themselves to be equipped with the decision-making, data collection, and processing capabilities required for the deployment of ICPSs. These industrial entities, augmented with these new functions, are then called as “intelligent” and can be used as elementary elements of the physical part of the ICPS. This chapter intends to exhibit the contribution of Intelligent Products to the emergence and implementation of ICPS.
